California Gulch with Laurel & Ken

California Gulch, west of Nogales, is known for its easily accessible population of Five-striped Sparrows. In the United States, this complex of canyons is the only place they can be found. But the bugs here are also amazing, as are the plants and the views. We went here on August 2, 2010

MontaƱa Peak

Emory's Barrel Cactus, Ferocactus emoryi

Montezuma's Grasshopper male, Syrbula montezuma

Montezuma's Grasshopper female, Syrbula montezuma

Yellow-bellied Grasshopper nymphs, Boopedon flaviventris

mating robberflies

long-horned beetle, Stenaspis solitaria

Ebony Grasshopper nymph, Boopedon nubilum

One of my favorites:
Panther-spotted Grasshopper, Poecilotettix pantherinus
